college is very expensive. and although im a big advocate of attending and graduating from a college you can eventually* afford, we need to find ways to make college more affordable.
one of the ways to make college more cost efficient is to reduce the amount of time required to get a degree. there are at least two and possible three to four semesters that could be eliminated. lets be honest there are required classes that wont be used after the student graduates, but also doesnt help while theyre in school.
the school year is about halfway completed. so students, parents, school systems and cities are thinking about summer time jobs for the students. its a great idea. it helps to teach more responsibility, and financial awareness, while also giving them something to do with their abundance of free time.
college tuition costs have skyrocketed in the past generation. it seems like the days of being able to pay as you go are over. that’s not entirely true though. in Baltimore, Morgan State and Coppin State are two universities with tuition of less than $3K/semester. of course those schools aren’t going to be everyone’s first choice. but they’re good options.
